Course Description:This course builds upon the foundational knowledge of health assessment principles specific to the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) role, focusing on the healthcare needs of women and families throughout the reproductive and childrearing years. Students will enhance their skills related to health promotion, illness prevention, diagnosis, and management of common health issues. The course will incorporate patient education, protocol development, follow-up, and referral strategies through a clinical practicum experience in a precepted primary care setting.

Course Objectives (COs):

1. Leadership Skills: Demonstrate effective leadership that supports relationship-based caring with a family-centered approach to promote quality advanced practice nursing. (Program Objective 2)
2. Ethical and Legal Issues: Identify current ethical and legal issues in the care of infants, children, adolescents, women, and child-bearing families. (Program Objective 6)
3. Evidence-Based Practice: Apply current evidence in health promotion, health protection, disease prevention, and primary care for infants, children, adolescents, women, and child-bearing families. (Program Objective 1)
4. Developmental, Cultural, and Family Theory: Apply these theories to health promotion, health protection, disease prevention, and primary care for infants, children, adolescents, women, and child-bearing families. (Program Objective 1)
